Baker hid from ram-raiders

Police in Hamilton say a terrified baker hid in a supermarket as a group of people used a vehicle to ram their way into the front of the premises.

They incident took place at the Countdown supermarket in Liverpool street shortly before 4am on Wednesday.

Some of the offenders cleared away the debris, while others grabbed boxes of beer.

The baker called the police and hid terrified in fear of being discovered.

Police say the offenders had left the scene by the time they arrived, but property found by officers led them to a Melville address.

Five people aged between 16 and 20 years have been arrested. Police are viewing security camera footage to see if any others were involved.
