A large boulder rolled down a hill and hit a Wellington passenger train on Saturday afternoon.
It's the latest incident in a troubled week for KiwiRail.
No one was hurt and the train, which was traveling on the Johnsonville line, was not serious damaged.
The line was checked and has been re-opened.
It follows an incident on Thursday in which two passenger trains collided near Plimmerton, north of Wellington, after one of the trains ran into a slip.
Buses have replaced the Wellington to Paraparaumu rail service while the network is upgraded and the damage caused by the slip is repaired.
