Police are investigating a scrub fire which they say endangered homes north of Whangarei.
The Fire Service says it was alerted to the blaze in Tutukaka shortly before midnight on Tuesday.
It says the fire, which covered about 300 square metres, threatened houses in Whangaumu Bay, also known locally as Wellington's Bay.
About 35 firefighters fought for an hour and a half to put out the fire.
