High winds delay water main repairs

High winds in Dunedin have meant repair crews will not be able to fix a damaged suburban water main as soon as had been hoped.

About 200 homes in Opoho have been without water since about 4pm on Tuesday after a tree uprooted and ruptured a pipe.

Dunedin City Council says conditions are still too dangerous for crews to go into the forest and repair the damage.

Network maintenance manager Mike Ind says they will instead work on a temporary bypass which should provide residents with water by 2pm - 4pm.
