Govt urged to help Tasman flood clean-up costs

6:45 pm on 3 January 2011

Federated Farmers is appealing to the Government to provide financial assistance for the clean-up in Golden Bay, after the worst flooding there in 150 years.

More than two dozen farms in the Aorere River valley are still waterlogged.

Two bridges were lost, more were damaged and, after changing course, the river is now running through a farm.

Federated Farmers says the Government must step in with funds to replace the bridges and return the river to its original course.

Golden Bay president Graham Ball says the work will take months.
