More arrests on final day at Rugby 7s

11:14 am on 6 February 2011

Police arrested 28 people and evicted 40 on the final day of the IRB Rugby Sevens tournament in Wellington.

The arrests were mainly for disorder, offensive behaviour and running onto the pitch.

Acting Inspector Scott Miller says the majority of partygoers were well- behaved and only a small number spoiled the fun.

But police are concerned about a high number of severely intoxicated young women at the event.

They say drunk women, between the ages of 18 - 25, made up about 90% of those who needed medical attention.

Sixteen people were arrested at the stadium, and 76 evicted on the first day one of the tournament on Friday.
