A Tauranga man has been charged with murder following the death of a woman early on Sunday.
The 41-year-old accused is also charged with attempted murder.
The man appeared in the Tauranga District Court on Monday. He has been remanded in custody and granted interim name suppression.
He is accused of killing a 59-year-old woman and seriously injuring another woman in the suburb of Bellevue.
Police say the man was treated in hospital for injuries he received before the incident.
They say any speculation on the circumstances or the cause of death is unhelpful to their investigation.
