Police in Christchurch want to speak to two doctors who stopped to help at a car crash, in which a 19-year-old woman died.

The crash happened at 12.20am on Saturday on Wairakei Road in Bryndwr, when a car carrying three people collided with some parked vehicles.

Police say a male passenger is in Christchurch hospital with moderate injuries and that the male driver did not require medical attention.

The young woman was trapped in the back seat, and had to be freed. She died on the way to hospital.

The doctors were among those first to the scene and helped the young woman.

Police also want to hear from other people in the area at the time, who saw or heard the crash.

Police say alcohol may been a factor in causing the crash.
