Dunedin traffic lights operation to be fine-tuned

11:49 am on 4 May 2011

Dunedin City Council is reviewing the operation of its traffic lights to address concerns that commuters are waiting on side roads for up to two minutes despite there being no other traffic.

Engineer Michael Harrison says the council aims to fine-tune the programming controlling the traffic lights to more accurately reflect traffic flows.

Mr Harrison says flashing traffic lights at night-time to avoid traffic delays is a possibility, but it could confuse motorists.
