Golden Bay farmers on flood alert

6:37 pm on 25 May 2011

Golden Bay farmers are on alert as continuing heavy rain threatens more flooding in areas inundated in the Tasman district last year.

Up to 260 millimetres of rain has fallen in the headwaters of the Aorere River causing surface flooding around Ferntown, near Collingwood.

The area was badly hit after Christmas and some properties are still repairing damage.

However, farmers say although rivers are close to bursting their banks, there are no major problems so far on Wednesday.
