Te Hauora a Kaikohe has come up with a novel way of getting the healthy eating message across.
The Maori health provider is holding a marae master chef competition at a different marae each fortnight.
Special projects manager Erana Kara says kuia and kaumatua are visiting competing marae where they judge the kai put on in terms of its health benefits.
''Every part of the menu needs to have fruit and vegetables,'' she told Waatea News.
She said the competition, which has been held at two marae and has another two to go, is proving a real success in getting the healthy eating message across.
