The Rakaia bridge on State Highway 1 in Canterbury has reopened after two vehicles collided head-on there on Saturday morning.
St John Ambulance says two people have been taken to hospital with serious and moderate injuries.
The Fire Service had to cut one person out of one of the vehicles.
Traffic was temporarily diverted via the Rakaia Gorge bridge.
