Public transport use is continuing to rise in Auckland.
Over the past 12 months, a record 65.3 million trips have been taken, with patronage in May 10% higher than the same month a year earlier.
Auckland Transport says the biggest growth is on the revamped rail network with patronage up 21%, with a 15% increase on the North Shore busway.
Chief executive David Warburton says the continued strong growth will help the case for Auckland Council's proposed downtown rail tunnel.
The Council on Tuesday approved the first planning stage for the $2.4 billion project, but has yet to convince the Government to help fund it.
