An Auckland councillor is pushing to fix the city's housing shortage by building trailer parks.
Councillor George Wood pitched the idea at a council committee meeting about housing affordability.
The council says another 10,000 homes are needed in the city and Mr Wood told the meeting that trailer parks would be a good solution.
He said there is international evidence supporting the low cost housing.
Another councillor, Cathy Casey, told the meeting the idea is silly and outdated. Her views were echoed by a fellow council member, Ann Hartley.
The council is considering housing affordability as it works on developing the Auckland Council plan, due out for public submission next year.
