Computer failure stops morning papers

1:29 pm on 2 August 2011

A major computer failure at Fairfax Media prevented the publication of several newspapers on Tuesday morning.

The Dominion Post, The Press, The Timaru Herald and The Southland Times are not publishing.

Fairfax says its main production system, which serves all papers in the Fairfax group - failed at 4.15pm on Monday.

It was only the second time in the past few years The Press has lost an edition of the paper.

In 2009, a fire in the press hall of the old building in central Christchurch also stopped the paper going to print.

Fairfax says the error is expected to be fixed on Tuesday.

Afternoon editions of The Manawatu Standard, The Marlborough Express and The Nelson Mail were published in abridged versions.
