Tourists visiting Auckland five weeks before the Rugby World Cup say it still lacks some basic must-haves for visitors.

Tourists interviewed by Radio New Zealand News commented that assistance for visitors needs to be simpler, more visible and easier to access.

Among their suggestions were clearer signs for the visitor information centre and access to information on how to get around the city using public transport.

One visitor from the United States found some parts of downtown Auckland were not visitor-friendly because of the roadworks and construction still in progress.

Tens of thousands of tourists are due to visit Auckland next month for the Rugby World Cup.
