Auckland's North Shore is the latest centre to have plans for a new elective surgery centre approved.

The Government will spend $37 million on the centre aimed at reducing waiting times for non-emergency surgery.

Health Minister Tony Ryall says it will be based at North Shore Hospital and have 40 beds and four operating theatres.

The elective surgery centres have been piloted at Waitakere Hospital, and another was announced for Greenlane Hospital in April.
