1100 truckloads later, new Kopu bridge nearly ready

The final section of concrete deck has been poured for the new two-lane Kopu bridge south of Thames.

The project services manager, Bryce Carter, says finishing work such as barrier and railing construction is under way.

The project is scheduled to be completed by Christmas, or just after.

The new bridge will replace the 82-year-old one-lane bridge, cutting travel times and fuel costs for all road users and eliminating bridge queues.

The Transport Agency says that to build the bridge the contractor has poured 13,200 tonnes of concrete - or 1100 truckloads.
