Police say speed appears to be a factor in a crash that killed a man near Tokoroa after the car he was travelling in collided with a logging truck.
The crash happened just before 8pm on Monday on Old Taupo Road near the Kinleith Paper Mill.
Police say the driver was attempting to regain control of the car when it re-entered the road and crossed the path of a truck heading in the opposite direction.
One of the passengers suffered critical injuries and died at the scene. Three other occupants of the vehicle have been taken to hospital.
