Teen arrested over Christchurch phone scam

Police have arrested a teenager in connection with a recent phone scam in the Christchurch.

Acting Detective Sergeant Hamish Wilson says eight people had complained in the past two months.

They said they had been phoned by someone claiming to be from a power company who then threatened to disconnect them if they did not provide their credit card details.

A 16-year-old boy has arrested and charged with a number of deception-related offences and accessing a computer system for a dishonest purpose.

He will appear in the Christchurch Youth Court on Friday.
