Police wait to interview social worker over assault claim

3:25 pm on 23 November 2011

Nelson police are waiting to interview a social worker accused of hitting a 15-year-old boy.

The boy was allegedly assaulted at the Richmond police station two weeks ago, suffering a bleeding nose.

The teenager went missing afterwards. He is now in the care of Child, Youth and Family.

The agency yesterday said it had suspended a staff member while an investigation continues.

The police say they hope to interview the social worker in the next day or two.
