A Queenstown woman has appeared in court charged with kidnapping, aggravated wounding and reckless driving.

Rachel Faul, 20, did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody until Thursday when she appears again in the Queenstown District Court.

Police say a 28-year-old man was ambushed by two women and a group of four or five skinheads on State Highway 6 near Arrowtown early on Saturday.

They say the skinheads were carrying machetes and a meat cleaver which they held to the man's throat, before he was bundled into the back of a car.

Police say the man was later dumped on the side of an Arrowtown road with serious injuries.

Officers have seized a yellow Toyota car believed to be owned by Ms Faul and are appealing to the public to come forward with any information about the attack.

Detective Sergeant Brian Cameron says the group are almost certain to have bragged about the incident.

Police are talking to a second person on Monday.
