Man dies in Waikato house fire

10:30 pm on 8 December 2011

Police say there is nothing to indicate that a second person was at the scene of a fatal house fire in Waikato on Thursday morning.

Fire-fighters were called about 4.50am to the suspicious blaze at a home in Netherton near Paeroa. They remained there until midday dampening down hotspots.

Police say the body of a man was removed from the house in the afternoon and a formal identification will be completed on Friday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Whitehead says forensic experts and investigators will continue inquiries at the house on Friday.

Mr Whitehead says despite earlier reports, there is nothing to suggest another person was at the property during the fire.
