6:08 am on 4 January 2012

Police in Gisborne are appealing for more witnesses to come forward as inquiries continue into the attack on two women in the city on New Year's Eve.

The women were attacked on Tyndall Road in the suburb of Kaiti as they walked home from New Year celebrations at about 3am on Sunday.

One of the women was hospitalised with a stab wound to her side and facial cuts caused by an assault with a bottle.

Police are hunting three men, believed to be Mongrel Mob members, whom they believe were involved in the attack.

They say the women are not believed to be associated with any gang.
