Cromwell crash claims second life

A second person has died as a result of a car crash in Cromwell.

Police say a sedan and courier van collided at the intersection of SH6 and SH8B, the turn-off to Queenstown and Wanaka, about 5.45pm on Thursday.

The driver of the car, a 29-year-old man who worked in the Cromwell area, died at the scene.

A female passenger of the car who had been flown to Dunedin Hospital died overnight.

Two other seriously injured female occupants of the sedan were also transferred to Dunedin Hospital.

Another person with moderate injuries was taken to Dunstan Hospital by ambulance.

The driver of the van has minor injuries.
