Auckland's Northwestern Motorway to reopen on Sunday

8:35 pm on 14 January 2012

A large section of Auckland's Northwestern Motorway will remain closed until midday on Sunday so that an old bridge can be demolished.

A section of road was blocked off on Friday.

The closure caused long traffic delays on Saturday with queues of up to 3km in the westbound lane, around the Te Atatu and Lincoln Road interchange.

New Zealand Transport Agency spokesperson Ewart Barnsley says they are on schedule to finish the work before midday on Sunday, just in time for any returning holiday traffic.
