A teenager is missing after being caught in a rip at a West Auckland beach.
Lifeguards raised the alarm after he was swept out to sea from O'Neill Bay, north of Bethells beach, on Thursday.
Two Westpac rescue helicopters, police maritime staff and lifeguards have been looking for him.
The search will resume at early light on Friday.
