Council chief executive 'may change mind' on pay rise

2:32 pm on 26 January 2012

The chief executive of the Christchurch City Council says he is considering refusing his $68,000 pay rise.

The increase is one of the issues causing bitter division between councillors which has prompted a meeting between the council and Local Government Minister Nick Smith.

Council chief executive Tony Marryatt has previously said he would not refuse the pay rise or give it to charity.

Mr Marryatt says he could change his mind.

He says he is continually reviewing his position on the salary increase and is interested in the outcome of the meeting with the council and the minister on Friday.
