collided with a passenger train at a rural railway crossing in September.
Adventure athlete Steve Gurney of Christchurch has accepted diversion, after pleading guilty to the careless use of a motor vehicle.
The nine-time winner of the Coast to Coast race collided with a passenger train while driving his car over a rural railway crossing in Rangiora in September. He was not seriously injured.
In November Gurney sent a guilty plea in the form of a letter, along with several recommendations about how train crossings can be made safer.
He was due to appear in the Rangiora District Court sitting at Nga Hau e Wha marae in Christchurch on Wednesday, but did not appear.
The court registrar confirms Gurney has accepted diversion and will reappear in court on 22 February.
