Court appearance follows AOS callout

3:51 pm on 21 February 2012

A South Dunedin man has appeared in court after an armed offenders squad callout on Monday night.

The squad was called to the beachside suburb of St Kilda at about 5pm by at least half a dozen calls from the public.

Some reported a man brandishing a gun at a group of about five people on Prince Albert Road.

Armed officers cordoned off between six and 10 streets, then forced entry into to the man's home and located a high-powered slug gun.

A man later gave himself up at a police station.

The 30-year-old, who has interim name suppression, has been charged with carrying an airgun unlawfully, pointing a gun at a woman and threatening to kill her.

He will appear again in Dunedin District Court on Thursday.
