Parents want Dunedin school to stay open

6:45 pm on 24 February 2012

The commissioner of Rotary Park School in South Dunedin says parents want it to remain open until the end of the year.

Cleave Hay says he met parents and staff on Thursday night to begin consultation on his recommendation the school be considered for closure.

He says people at the meeting realised that with only 21 students, Rotary Park does not have a long-term future.

Parents want it to stay open until the end of the year so students in Year Six do not have to go to another school, only to move again next year for intermediate.

Mr Hay says the community has 30 days to make its views known.
