Fine weather aided debris recovery

Clean-up teams made use of a window of fine weather to recover debris from the Rena last week.

The ship ran aground on Astrolabe Reef off the coast of Tauranga in October.

Braemar Howells, the company cleaning up cargo spilled from the wreck, says it made use of clear weather on Thursday to rig cables to four sunken containers to prepare them to be hauled to the surface.

A remote-controlled submarine was used for the work and also to obtain a closer look at the seabed around the submerged stern of the wreck.
