Kiwifruit companies consider legal action over PSA

11:53 am on 29 November 2012

Kiwifruit packing companies are considering filing a class action lawsuit against the Government claiming lax biosecurity led to the PSA vine disease arriving in the country.

Seeka chief executive Michael Franks said kiwifruit growers have lost hundreds of millions of dollars as PSA has killed their vines and destroyed their incomes, investments and property values.

Mr Franks said the Sapere Report, which investigated the circumstances surrounding the arrival of PSA in New Zealand, showed that Biosecurity NZ allowed kiwifruit plant material in, that should not have been allowed to cross the border.
