Maori farming award winners announced

The winner of the Ahuwhenua Trophy, the Maori Excellence in Farming Award, will be announced Friday night.

The Trophy, in its 80th year, is the premier award for Maori in agriculture.

The competition covers sheep and beef farms this year.

The finalists are Te Uranga B2 Incorporation for its Upoko B2 farming operation, Te Awahohonu Forest Trust's Tarawera Station and Te Hape B Trust's Te Hape Station.

There is also an award for the young Maori sheep and beef farmer of the year.

The finalists for that are Te Moana (Tem) Sidney, a junior shepherd, at Mount Herbert Station, Waipukurau and Jordan Smith a Shepherd working for Kearins Brothers at Te Kuiti.
