Agricultural advisor to Govt mooted

A new report has raised the idea of appointing an agricultural adviser to the Government.

The annual KPMG Agribusiness Agenda is based on discussions with more than 100 industry leaders.

Report author Ian Proudfoot said that as well as focusing on critical issues such as biosecurity and water, they also raised the need for more collaboration.

He said there was only lukewarm support for forming some sort of umbrella or pan industry body as part of that.

However, he said there is interest in creating the agricultural equivalent of the Government's chief science advisor.
