Kiwfruit payment forecast lifted

6:21 am on 23 October 2009

Zespri has lifted its projected payments to kiwfruit growers for the current export season.

It's latest forecast shows an increase of $48 million over the past season to $827 million, or an average of $8.06 per tray.

It's predicting a rise in payments for green and gold kiwifruit, over the previous forecast, but no change for green organic.

Zespri says the improved forecast reflects the impact of reduced costs, especially for fuel, lower fruit losses from green kiwifruit and foreign exchange gains from hedging activities and a favourable exchange rate against the Japanese yen.
