Dairy giant Fonterra says farmers are on track to record their highest level of milk production.
Milk supply manager Steve Murphy says with a fortnight of the 2010/11 season still to go, production is more than 4% ahead of the same time last year.
He says it was a tough start to the season with spring storms and then drought in parts of the North Island.
However farmers have experienced some of the best autumn weather for years which has resulted in strong pasture growth, boosting production.
Mr Murphy says Fonterra collected nearly 1.3 billion kilograms of milk solids last season.
