Further road improvements at Fieldays

Further improvements have been made to the national Agricultural Fieldays site to reduce traffic congestion at the event this year.

The four-day agribusiness exhibition which starts at Mystery Creek on Wednesday, is the biggest single event on the rural calendar, attracting more than 115,000 visitors.

Facilities manager Roger Bailey says a turning lane has been installed off Airport Road, which leads onto a new four lane access road, 15-metres wide.

''What we're trying to do is get everyone from Hamilton to come out on SH Three instead of SH One,'' he said. ''SH Three is a better road with a lot better (traffic) flow.''

Mr Bailey said a major sealing project is also underway and an extra 1km of roads and footpaths will be sealed when the event opens.

Guests arriving at the main gates will be able to walk on sealed footpaths to the main pavilion without getting their gumboots muddy.
