Wool prices firm up slightly at auction

8:00 am on 18 June 2011

Limited supplies and a slightly more favourable exchange rate helped prices at this week's wool sale to firm up a little.

Fewer than 6500 bales of North and South Island wool were auctioned on Thursday, of which 85% sold.

Exporter Wool Services International says finer mid-micron and cross-bred fleece firmed by 2-4%.

Prices for coarse carpet-type fleeces and longer shears were up to 2% higher.

Lambswool prices were mixed, with longer lines rising by 2% and short coarse wools falling by the same percentage.
