West Coast dairy farms hit by bad weather

Dairy farmers on the West Coast of the South Island say last week's atrocious spell of weather took its toll on stock.

Katie Milne, who farms east of Greymouth near Lake Brunner, says prolonged episodes of rain, sleet, snow and lightning were the worst she can remember.

She says cows lost weight despite how much they were fed and farmers have fed their cows a lot more supplementary feed than usual to try and get weights back to normal.
