9:44 am on 4 March 2012

Teneale Hatton and Ben Fouhy have secured two places for the New Zealand Canoe team for the London Olympics after success in yesterday's Oceania Canoe Sprint Championships in Sydney.

Hatton raced over the women's K1 500m distance, and Fouhy, the Athens Olympics silver medallist, in the K1 1000m event.

The New Zealand canoe team hopes to gain two more Olympic seats today in the men's K2 1000m.

If successful New Zealand will add these four seats to the three gained already.

At the last Olympics in Beijing the New Zealand Kayak sprint team gained four seats.
