Just minutes after pulling off one of the most stunning upsets in Australian sport, the first year Victorian golf pro Daniel Popovic set his sights on winning a major championship, and he doesn't feel it's that far off.
26 year old Popovic completed an all-the-way win in the Australian PGA championship yesterday at Coolum in Queensland, winning by four strokes with a 16-under par total, having teed off as a 400-1 outsider ranked 1251st in the world.
Popovic credited the victory to his father Radi who has incurable bone cancer.
The US-based Rod Pampling finished second after starting his final round with 6 straight birdies, and he took the lead midway through the back nine before a faltering finish.
The leading New Zealander was Josh Geary, who stormed onto the leaderboard with a brilliant start, but dropped six shots in the middle of his round to finish in a tie for 32nd.
