Federer has easy win over Safin

Roger Federer is on track for a record-equalling 14th grand slam title after a straight sets win over former champion Marat Safin at the Australian Tennis Open.

Federer dominated the match between the former world number ones to win 6-3 6-2 7-6.

Meanwhile Marat's sister, world number three Dinara Safina, has hit her way into the last 16.

Her 6-2 6-2 win over Kaia Kanepi was a triumph of force over finesse. She plays Alize Cornet next after the Frenchwoman beat Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova.

Men's third seed and defending champion Novak Djokovic is also through to the fourth round, after dropping one set in beating American Amer Delic.

In the women's draw top seed Jelena Jankovic is still in with a chance to win her first grand slam title. She's through to the last 16 after beating Japan's Ai Sugiyama 6-4, 6-4.

However fifth seed Ana Ivanovic is out. She dropped her serve nine times in losing in thee sets to 19-year-old Alisa Kleybanova.
