Euphoria turns to alarm in Buenos Aires

The euphoria that surrounded Diego Maradona's competitive debut as Argentina's football coach has turned to alarm following the 6-1 loss to Bolivia in a World Cup qualifying match.

Argentina gave Maradona a dream start by beating Venezuela 4-0 last weekend, but five days later, in the rarified atmosphere of La Paz, Argentina conceded six goals for the first time since 1958.

Argentina have slipped to fourth in their 10-team group, the lowest position in which they could finish and qualify directly for next year's World Cup finals in South Africa.
