Keane off to winning start while Wolves clinch title

7:34 am on 26 April 2009

Roy Keane has enjoyed a winning start to life with Ipswich Town as his new second division English football side crushed Cardiff City 3-0, while Wolverhampton clinched the Championship title with a 1-1 draw at Barnsley.

The draw leaves Barnsley still very much in the battle as to who will fill the final relegation spot.

Sheffield United made second-placed Birmingham work to join Wolves in the Premier League after defeating Swansea 1-0 at Bramall Lane. A Blades defeat would have sent Birmingham into the top-flight, but the Blues can clinch promotion by beating Preston in the late match.

Burnley, who drew 2-2 at Southampton to confirm the Saints' relegation, will secure a play-off spot if Birmingham defeat Preston.

Elsewhere, Derby beat relegated Charlton 1-0, Doncaster saw off Crystal Palace 2-0 and Watford defeated Coventry 3-2.

Nottingham Forest drew 1-1 at Blackpool, Sheffield Wednesday drew 1-1 at Bristol City and QPR shared a goalless draw with Plymouth.
