Businessman to chair SPARC board

Businessman Paul Collins has been appointed chairman of the Board of Sport and Recreation New Zealand,

Collins was recently appointed to the SPARC board and has held held directorships with more than 50 listed companies in New Zealand and overseas including Brierley Investments.

He's also served on the Sports Foundation, was a member of the Rugby World Cup 2011 bid committee and is a director of the Wellington Rugby Football Union.

He also chairs the Hurricanes Super 14 franchise and the Wellington Regional Stadium Trust.

Sport and Recreation Minister Murray McCully also named four new board members for three-year terms.

They're the former Silver Ferns captain Waimarama Taumaunu, Olympian Katie Sadlier, businessman Bill Birnie and lawyer Don Mackinnon.
