The former All Blacks prop Kees Meeuws will play of Otago in this year's national provincial championship.

Meeuws, 34, is back in Dunedin pursuing a building career and has been signed by Otago for an initial six-week period while first-choice prop Keith Cameron recovers from injury.

Otago chief executive Richard Reid says Meeuws's continued involvement will be assessed at the end of that period.

Meeuws has been included in the Otago squad a warmup match against Tasman this weekend.

Meeuws played 40 games for Otago between 1997 and 2001, making his All Black debut in 1998.

He then moved to Auckland before heading to France in 2004.

In May last year he signed with Welsh club the Scarlets, but had injury problems and left recenly left to return home.
