Arsenal "diver" wins appeal

7:26 am on 16 September 2009

The Arsenal striker Eduardo da Silva has won his appeal against a two-match ban imposed by UEFA for diving in a Champions League qualifying game against Celtic.

The Brazilian-born Croatian international was initially banned after winning a controversial penalty against Celtic, but the panel hearing the appeal wasn't satisfied that the referee had been deceived in taking his decision on the penalty.

Eduardo is now free to play in Arsenal's first two Champions league group matches at the Belgian club Standard Liege, and against Olympiakos in Greece at the end of the month.
