U.S. captain Fred Couples has paid tribute to his heavyweight trio of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Steve Stricker after his team won the Presidents Cup for a sixth time against the International side in San Francisco.
Woods, Mickelson and Stricker, the leading three players in the world, lost just one of their 13 matches between them as the U.S. coasted to a 19-½ to 14-1/2 win.
Top-ranked Woods went a perfect 5-0-0, only the third player to do so in the biennial competition.
Couples, a former world number one, rated his successful Presidents Cup captaincy as the high point of his career however he didn't know if he'd want to return for the 2011 tournament in Melbourne as it was too stressful.
