Handball row left Henry devastated

Thierry Henry says he considered ending his international career following the furore that surrounded his handball against Ireland in the World Cup playoff in Paris.

The Barcelona striker told the French sports daily L'Equipe that he felt abandoned in the days after Thursdays's game which saw France qualify on the back of a goal set up by his sleight of hand.

Henry says he also considered quitting after France lost the last World Cup final and after after Euro 2008 but decided a new generation of players needed him.

He says he would never let down France and really regrets using his hand in setting up the French equaliser but doesn't think the incident will leave a lasting stain on his career.
